New Zealand Single Track Adventures trading as Tekapo Adventures is committed to the protection of our employees, clients & property from accidental injury or damage from work carried out by, and on behalf of, the business. We adopt health, safety, and welfare as a fundamental business objective.
In meeting this commitment, management will comply with all legislative requirements and take all practicable steps to:
- Provide a safe place of work, safe equipment, and proper materials.
- Ensure activities are reviewed by competent staff (internal technical advisors).
- Establish and insist that safe work methods are always practiced.
- Provide supervision and training.
- Ensure employees and clients understand and accept their responsibility to promote a safe and healthy place of work and are part of the safety management process.
- Comply with all Health and Safety Legislation.
- Prioritize the prevention of serious harm.
- Continually improve health and safety practices.
Understanding Inherent Risks
Whilst we undertake all reasonably practicable steps to minimize, remove, or isolate risks during our tours, they still exist as they do in everyday life.
Risks you may be exposed to during your tour include, but are not limited to:
- Motor vehicle accident including collision with other vehicles, stationary objects, or the land, rollovers, or vehicle fires.
- Your own failure to heed safety warnings, both verbal and written.
- Actions of other road users or members of the public which could cause harm.
- Risk of falling from alighting the motor vehicle.
- Risk of falling or injury due to uneven, loose, or slippery terrain.
- Risk of drowning.
- Risk of injury or death due to natural events such as Earthquakes, Landslide, Flash Flooding, Treefall, Wildfire, Lightning, Blizzards, Volcanic Eruption, Tsunami, Cyclones, and any ongoing consequences of these events.
As a participant, you are aware that you are voluntarily participating in a scenic 4wd tour & adventure tour, and this involves many of these risks and hazards mentioned.
As a participant you understand that there are risks involved in the activity of 4 wheel driving and any backcountry travel on rough or uneven terrain. There are many risks and hazards involved in 4wd and backcountry travel, including but not limited to: steep drop offs, cliffs, uneven terrain, steep grades, steep gradients, unstable rocks, slippery roots, speed, variety of terrain and gradients, unstable surfaces, trees, obstacles, loss of balance; variation or steepness in terrain; mechanical failure of equipment; variation or changes in backcountry terrain including rocks, gravel, cliffs, trees, roots, tree stumps, rivers, streams and creeks; changing weather conditions; exposure to temperature extremes or inclement weather; travel or transport to and from the sites used for backcountry hiking and the backcountry; travel on highways and backcountry roads; encounters with domestic and wild animals including dogs, motor vehicles, becoming lost or separated, from ones party; Helicopters, extreme exhausts from helicopters, helicopter rotors and loose flying objects, other aircraft, rapid water in creek/river crossing, and drowning.
Participants also understand that an unpredictable or uncontrollable event may occur that could possibly cause you serious harm or death. You are aware of the implications of my voluntary participation and the consequences involved in a backcountry 4wd adventure tour. You are aware of the implications of my voluntary participation should I ignore the organization’s safety management procedures and directions, guiding principles, including procedures and directions regarding the use of any safety equipment.
Participants understand that the scenic 4wd tour will take place on private lands, and that participants assume and agree to take full responsibility for their actions or inactions while participating on the private land.
Participants aknowledge that the organization will take all reasonable and practical steps to keep clients safe while involved in scenic 4wd tour and its activities involved in the tour, however, participants accept full responsibility for their own actions or inaction.
